
Prior to 2000, several organisations represented people working in WA's camping, outdoor recreation, outdoor education and professional instructing services.
Outdoors WA (Inc) was formed in 2000 following a joint WA Government (Department of Sport and Recreation) and industry consultation process.
The 2000 merger resulted in the formation of Outdoors WA, an incorporated body now officially recognised as the "Peak Industry Body" for outdoor adventure activities in WA.
Outdoors WA is the WA based operative of the Outdoor Council of Australia and the Australian Camps Association.
Outdoors WA has an expanding membership base. Our current key projects include the implementation of the National Outdoor Leader Registration Scheme, the development of Adventure Activity Standards, the Australian Campsite Accreditation Scheme and the Roping Code of Practice. In addition, the fulfills roles including the industry code of conduct, publications development, advocacy, cross government liaison, and members' services including an annual state conference.
As the recognised Peak Body, Outdoors WA is entitled to, and has been successful in attracting funding from government and non-government sources for industry based projects.
Outdoors WA contracts consultants to fulfill its major strategic and operational initiatives, whilst being governed by a volunteer structure comprising a Board of Management, sub-committees and working parties.
Outdoors WA has strategic alliances and or service agreements with the Department of Sport and Recreation, Environment and Conservation, Education and Training, and Tourism.
